Desiree Perez may not be a household name to the casual music fan but to those in the know, she is one of the industry’s movers and shakers. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the music conglomerate Roc Nation, Perez has been responsible for a number of big moves at the company. It is for this reason that Billboard Magazine recently named Perez as one of the most powerful female executives in the music industry.
Des, as she is called by friends, has been the COO of Roc Nation since it was formed in 2009. Prior to taking that position, she ran Jay-Z’s previous company, SC Enterprises, for years. She has been a very close confidant and business advisor for the rap mogul for over 20 years. Des is known for her intense negotiating style and business acumen among the music industry.
A native of New York City, Perez successfully ran a number of entertainment venues and night clubs around the city for years. As COO of Roc Nation she has negotiated a number of deals including Rihanna’s deal with Samsung and Beyoncé’s Foundation Stadium deal. She seemingly always gets the best deal possible for Roc Nation and was appointed to run the company’s new music streaming service, TIDAL, in 2016. She then successfully completed a deal that sent 33% of the company to Sprint in exchange for $200 million and exclusive access to its 45 million users. The deal made news in the industry as TIDAL is now a major player in the music streaming business. To know more about her click here.
Perez is also called upon to negotiate deals on the behalf of Roc Nation Sports’ clientele. She is a pit bull in the negotiation room and was the primary negotiator that helped baseball star Robinson Cano secure a 10-year, $250 million deal with the Seattle Mariners.
