Into the Philanthropy Game: Jason Hope

There is no denying the fact that technology plays an increasingly important role in our lives. Several jobs now include sitting in front of a computer 8 hours a day, and children are being given tablets in primary school. Our main form of connection is now talking, texting, and communicating via social media sites over our mobile devices. Jason Hope is one of the people who has been following these trends and has been successful at predicting which trends will catch on next.

Hope started to learn about emerging technologies and innovation after he graduated with his MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He is considered a futurist and prominent investor in the sector, and he has single-handedly helped hundreds of companies determine their investment strategies in technology and innovation solutions. He has made millions by detecting trends and getting on board with new, emerging tech, but now he has set his sights on philanthropy as another way of helping the world.

Even though Jason Hope is now in the philanthropy game, he has still focused on technology and new innovations the field. This shows by the organizations he is choosing to sponsor. Starting in 2010, Hope started to donate to SENS, and in that year he gave the foundation a half-million dollars to open a new research facility in Cambridge. Oddly enough, the SENS Foundation has one goal in mind: anti-aging remedies.

These remedies are not your everyday infomercial facial creams and diet supplements, however. SENS is heavily involved with trying to keep age-degenerating diseases from ever affecting humans again. By stopping these diseases, they would help millions of people across the globe to keep from aging more rapidly than they otherwise would. This, in its own right, would be a new Fountain of Youth. Because of the technological and scientific requirements of new discoveries such as this, Jason Hope was more than happy to donate. Since 2010, he has donated over $1 million to this cause. Jason Hope’s Hard Line Stance on the Internet of Things

Jason Hope continues to donate and work with several organizations and foundations that aim to make the lives of people better and invest in new emerging technologies. He gives annually to several charities, including the Arizona Science Center (where he also serves on the Board), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the T Gen Foundation. He will continue to go wherever new technologies take him, and his aim will always be the betterment of humankind in the future.  Jason Hope Pledges $500,000

The Brazilian Law Industry: The Million Lawyer Country

Brazil is a huge country with numerous schools that offer law as a subject to be taught. With literally several thousand courses to offer, they have managed to reach the million mark when it comes to the number of lawyers. They have the highest number of lawyers in the world.

The main reason as hinted above is the availability and ease of access to the law schools to study several law courses that you will find. This makes it a viable option for more and more people, and they take the opportunity.

Here Are Some Of The Statistics

The National Council of Justice decided to collect statistical data to account for the high number of lawyers that Brazil has. Here is what they found out about the law industry.

In summary:

  • Brazilian Law Schools have a record total of 1240 courses in the field, making it possible for anyone interested to study a certain type of law that they will choose.
  • The Brazilian Bar Examinations recorded that there were over 800,000 lawyers passed their examinations.
  • There was also the fact that if all of the lawyers who took the Bar exam were to succeed, there would be over 3 million lawyers in Brazil.

Controlling The Quality

The Brazilian Government has seen that the lawyer numbers are increasing at an alarming rate making this business an over flooded one. They have initiated methods to cull the less useful courses.

Dick DeVos Charity Boosts Passion for the Arts

In a time when the arts seem to be falling to the wayside in the eyes of many Americans, businessman Dick DeVos and his charity The Dick & Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, are working to pull attention back to this important area of human growth and inspiration. Art is more than a fun hobby. it is a way to release ones’ inner strengths and express in a way not found elsewhere. Without art, we would not have many of the great inventions that we rely on so heavily in today’s machine-heavy society.

With his foundation, Dick DeVos helped his son create the well-known ArtPrize event. For more than two weeks, art from all over the world comes to the Grand Rapids’ area to cover three square miles of the city. To help bring visitors into the art world and make it more than a spectator event, a $200,000 grand prize is awarded to the piece voted on by the public. A second prize is awarded to a Grand Jury selection winner. The event has been called a ‘must see’ event by national media outlets like Time and CNN and now welcomes nearly half a million visitors.

This is just one of the many great events sponsored by Dick DeVos and family. Together, the DeVos family has helped raise millions of dollars for the arts, the local community, and even had a massive impact on the local economy. More than money, Dick DeVos’ charitable work is helping to shed a light on the importance of things such as art in our society. Too many schools are looking to cut this fundamental course from their curriculums when the benefits are greater than a dollar sign.

The Philanthropy of Dick DeVos

Dick DeVos and his family name has become synonymous with wealth and philanthropy. This prestigious family gave over ninety million dollars to various causes just in 2013. These cause included education, community services and churches and faith-based organizations. Just a year later the family gave nearly 95 million dollars, nearly half in the state of Michigan. The DeVos’s has five family foundations that target primarily Western Michigan.

Dick DeVos himself s an entrepreneur and businessman is the son of Amway co-founder Richard DeVos. For years he served as the CEO of the consumer goods distribution company. Forbes listed him as one of the richest people in the United States, with a net worth of more than 5 billion. His family owned the NBA’s Orlando Magic and DeVos became President and CEO of the team in the early 90’s.

DeVos himself is a huge giver. He and his wife became co-chairs of the Education Freedom Fund in the 90’s. The Fund gives scholarships to low-income families in Michigan that have the desire to attend.
